500 Records is an artist-run label founded by four passionate members of the Bay Area music scene. Established in 2005, 500 Records began as a music collective with the goal of helping local artists and bands reach more listeners. Over the last three years, the label has promoted and released records in a variety of formats, always striving to help bring good music to good people. In September 2008, 500 Records partnered with the established Bay Area record label Three Ring Records, whose experience and enthusiasm for local music has allowed the label to secure full national and international distribution in both the physical and digital realm. 500 Records comes to NAIL via Three Ring Records.

Artocker
In reaction to Britain’s invasion by The Strokes and The Hives,
Paul Cox (co-founder of Too Pure Records) formed Artrocker in 2002.
The label started its life with a free giveaway CD at “Hot Rod

Beehouse Records
Jason Bays and Colleen Coffey formed Ventura-based Beehouse Records in 2004 to release the records
of their newly-formed band, The Spires. Despite having no real intention to release other people's music, it has since become a
full-fledged record label and umbrella group for like-minded, dedicated, and self-reliant artists. A mixed bag in the
truest sense of the term, the Beehouse sound swings wide, from The Spires' reverberating washed-out jangle, and Tall Tales'
Byrds/Dylan-inspired folk to the droning noise-guitar landscapes of Isley Banks and Deep Magic’s improvised ambient cassettes. Now

City Pop
Devoted to the wanton proliferation of quality rock and roll, Belle
City Pop is a company based in Brooklyn, NY. Its founder, Brian
Malone, was raised in Racine, WI, affectionately known as the “Belle

Started in 2000 as Enjoy Records, Everloving has had

ESP-Disk'
Founded in 1965, ESP-Disk' established a unique identity as an
innovative record label by documenting the generation of American
composer/performers who made up the free improvisation movement.
The artists were granted complete freedom to produce their own
records, and this gave rise to the slogan “The artists alone
decide what you will hear on their ESP-Disk’.” ESP closed its
doors in 1974 when funds ran out. The tapes went into safety
deposit boxes, where they remained for 17 years. Today, ESP has
returned with a series of reissued and previously unreleased,
unheard recordings. The reissues have been painstakingly remastered
from the original master tapes, with expanded content and new
liner notes. Artists include: Albert Ayler, Sun Ra, Pearls Before
Swine, The Fugs and Ellis Marsalis.

Plantation
Founded in 2003, Mississippi-based Esperanza Plantation has established
itself in the independent music world as a strong and diverse voice

Idelsohn Society (Formerly Reboot Stereophonic)
The Idelsohn Society believes that music creates conversations
otherwise impossible in daily life. The label’s goal is to incite
a new conversation about the present by listening anew to the past,
and they will do this by unearthing lost classics from the archive,
sounds that are languishing in thrift-store crates across the nation.
The label is named for Abraham Zevi Idelsohn, legendary Jewish
musicologist and writer of everybody's favorite classic, "Hava
Nagila."
Idelsohn devoted his life to studying, gathering, and classifying
Jewish music in all of its forms in order to better understand
the very nature of Jewish identity.

Porterhouse Records was formed in the spring of 1997 by seminal punk rock guitarist
Greg Hetson of Bad Religion, Circle Jerks and Redd Kross,
and Hollywood-based record producer/musician Steve Kravac,
whose production credits include MXPX, Pepper, Seven Seconds, Less Than Jake, and
Tsunami Bomb. Armed with an understanding of the plight of developing
bands and musicians, as well as the experience of touring and recording
for indies and majors alike, the two sought to create a label that cut
through the smoke and mirrors involved with the recording industry. Known
for doing deals on nothing more than a handshake and their word, they have
created an enterprise that is fueled by respect for the creative
process, and the savvy of being involved in the industry for over 25 years each.

Projekt Records
Projekt is America's premier independent label specializing in passionately intense introspective music across a variety of

GRAFT

January
Slow January was founded in 2003 by Christopher Sapone following
a freak accident on the streets of Los Angeles. After much rehabilitation,
Sapone went on to Portland to make a home for Slow January. The

Stone Records
Formed in 1996 in response to the sad state of the airwaves and
the ever-increasing stagnation of the college rock scene, Small
Stone Records has only two simple ethos: to be a thorn in the side

Are Active
Since their first release in 1999, Sounds Are Active has become
a home for free jazz/improv, experimental hip-hop and electronic
artists. A strong visual aesthetic has helped to define the label

Standard
Recording Company
"Wouldn't it be cool to release a CD?" This was pretty much the
start of it, a question that was answered by the release of a benefit
album for Habitat For Humanity. And the label remains even today,
finding great music to release. In 2004, Standard stopped releasing
albums in jewel cases, opting instead for recycled stock packaging
or other renewable materials. Most of the releases our hand assembled
and/or hand packaged.

Originally started as SUBCONSCIOUS by Dwayne Goettel and Phil Western in 1993, the label grew into Subconscious

Tender Loving Empire
Portland’s Jared & Brianne Mees conceived Tender Loving Empire in 2005, as a sort of DIY melting pot. They needed a means to put out Jared’s eponymous solo project in addition to the books, comics, and t-shirts their friends were making, but had no means of selling. In 2007, after building a successful online following, they opened the Tender Loving Empire store, a tiny brick & mortar operation that has since grown to feature the work of 250 different local crafters, designers, fine artists, and musicians as well as a gallery and a custom silk-screening operation. The record label has continued to sign hard-touring, off-kilter folk and rock acts from all over the US, as well as hosting regular showcases at SXSW and MusicFest NW.

Yoyo
Recordings
Yoyo Recordings began as a studio in 1984 at the start of the indie
rock movement in Olympia. In the 1990s, they began releasing compilations
of some of their better recordings. Later, they released live compilations
from their five-day, 50-band Yoyo a Go Go festival. Yoyo’s releases
cover the full range of indie stuff: punk, folk, pop, rock, rock
opera, queer, emo, twee, and active – as in activism. Releases
include the Yoyo a Go Go compilations as well as albums by Mirah
and The Microphones.
